The most recent news is sure to put them on top. Dish Network has made it official, it’s moving into wireless. In a filing made this week with the Federal Communications Commission, the satellite television provider applied for approval to combine satellite spectrum licenses to use for mobile broadband services.

“We are excited about the opportunity to put this nationwide spectrum to productive use for competitive and innovative mobile broadband services,” Dish’s executive vice president Tom Cullen said in a statement on Tuesday.

Dish is hoping to follow the same path as LightSquared, a satellite mobile broadband company funded by hedge fund billionaire Philip Falcone. LightSquared has run into many concerns by the Federal Aviation Administration and companies that rely on GPS technology. However Dish wouldn’t operate on the same band as GPS and wouldn’t encounter the same concerns over interference. This most recent move made by Dish is in hopes of becoming a bigger player in media and telecommunications. Dish may be looking to Sprint Nextel Corp and MetroPCS Communications to help them with that. MetroPCS may be the right fit because they need more airwaves and has the financial resources to help Dish build a network.

However we shouldn’t expect anything to happen just yet. “I wouldn’t expect anything in the near term,” Dish Chief Executive Officer Joseph Clayton said earlier this month on a conference call, referring to the company’s mobile Internet strategy. Nothing is certain just yet, but keep an eye out for DISH Networks next move.
Frontier has recently made the switch from offering Satellite TV service and has since been focusing on FIOS installation. However they are still very happy to offer customers the service but do it via their partner, DISH Network. On Wednesday Frontier announced that they would be renewing their contract with the Satellite Giant DISH Network. They signed a multiyear contract, in which Frontier will offer DISH Network video service as part of a bundled service package throughout its 27-state footprint. This plan is currently available to all customers that subscribe to Frontier’s Custom Value package and will include DISH Network’s 200 HD channels, audio channels, and pay-per-view and on-demand titles.

“We are very excited to strengthen our partnership with Frontier, a company that has expanded aggressively into new territories,” said Joe Clayton, CEO of DISH Network. “As a digital TV entertainment leader, DISH Network offers a true value proposition, providing the most choices for programming and technology at the best price. We are pleased to continue offering DISH Network products and services as part of Frontier’s value-driven broadband, telephone and video bundle.”

Frontier will provide a single point of contact for their customer service, providing one single telephone bill, and video and high-speed internet services. DISH Network also gives Frontier customers a front row seat to watch TV everywhere on any device-tablets, smart phones or laptops with its Sling Adapter technology and its Blockbuster movie services. To add TV Everywhere to your programming visit us online at Dish-Systems or call (866)989-3474.

For those of you that look forward to watching your favorite Fox shows online, you will now have to wait to view it online for free. Starting August 15, 2011, you will have to wait 8 days before you can watch it online, unless you have a DISH Network subscription or a HULU plus account. Fox Networks and Fox Broadcasting Company have announced a new authentication program that requires a cable or Hulu subscription for immediate access to online content. DISH Network is currently the only service provider signed on for the service, but Fox said it has plans to sign with many more cable providers in the near future. This means your favorite shows such as ‘Glee’, ‘Bones’, ‘The Simpsons’, and ‘Family Guy’ will only be accessible to you via hulu.com, dishonline.com and through cable providers that decide they want to participate. For the time being if you don’t have either of the stated subscriptions you will need to wait 8 days for it to become available online. “We are continually looking at opportunities to provide our pay television distributors with content and products that enhance the value of pay television subscribers,” Michael Hopkins, president of Affiliate Sales and Marketing at Fox Networks, said in a statement. “Our new authentication service will continue to provide next-day access to Fox broadcast shows for our viewers who subscribe to participating pay television providers.” This give DISH Network customers the ability to watch what they want anytime, anywhere. TV anywhere is an initiative that lets cable subscribers watch content online. It started in June 2009, with Time Warner starting to provide online access to TNT and TBS content. Dish has launched their TV Everywhere portal named “DISHOnline.com.” DISH Network requires a one- time payment for the content and then can remain completely connected to that service. This will allow them access to all of their live TV and recorded programs, whether it be on a laptop, mobile device, or anywhere in their home using the DISH Network WiFi Monitor.
