Golden Globe Awards: Check out the list of Nominees before the Awards Show in January

The Golden Globes will take place Jan. 15 at the Beverly Hilton and will be broadcast on NBC. Comic Ricky Gervais (an occasional Speakeasy contributor) will return as host.Immediately after the Holiday we will head straight into awards season and today they announced the nominees for the upcoming 2012 Golden Globes. To kick off the nominations that were announced this morning, the silent film “The Artist” led the nomination announcement show. “The Artist’ scored six nominations, more than any other motion picture this year. For those of you that have never heard of this film, here is a brief synopsis. Set in Hollywood between 1927 and 1931, the black and white film tells the story of an actor going into decline as silent films go out of fashion. The artist was followed up by ‘The Help’ (five nominations) and ‘The Descendants’ (five nominations). ‘The Ides of March,’ ‘Midnight in Paris,’ and ‘Moneyball’ also garnered multiple nominations with four nods each.

As far as television series goes, ‘American Horror Story’ was nominated for Series Drama with supporting actress Jessica Lange getting a nod for Best Supporting Actress in a miniseries. Always a favorite ‘Boardwalk Empire’ was nominated for Best Series Drama as well as Best Actor nod for Steve Buscemi. As far as nominations for Series Musical or Drama goes, ‘Enlightened’ (HBO); ‘Episodes’ (Showtime); ‘Glee’ (Fox); ‘Modern Family’ (ABC) and ‘New Girl’ on (Fox) were all nominated.
