‘Two and a Half Men’ Season Premiere Receives High Ratings

After months of wondering how ‘Two and a Half Men’ would fare without Charlie Sheen, we can rest assured that the show will go on. Last night, viewers finally got to learn what happened to Sheen’s character Charlie Harper. Ashton Kutchers debut as an Internet billionaire who moves into Harper’s house translated into ratings for CBS last night. Nearly 28 million viewers tuned in to see the season premiere of Men on CBS at 9pm. The show also pulled in a 10.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and a 12.2 rating among viewers 25-54. That is a huge increase from last season bow, which averaged 14.6 million and 4.9 in the 18-49 demo and 6.1 in the 25-54 demo. This season premiere fared very well in comparison to other very popular shows. Like ‘American Idol’ that averaged 25 million viewers last season, ‘Dancing with the Stars’ averaged nearly 20 million people and the second season of Fox’s ‘Glee’ hovered right around 11 million watchers each week. Here is what a few critics have to say:

• USA Today’s Robert Bianco: “make repeated references to Walden’s sexual organs and still seem sweet together.” He also added that the show was in need of a change before Sheen got fired, last season.
• Hank Steuver of the Washington Post: said that the show has never featured any complicated storylines and Kutcher did a good job of showing that last night. “Two and a Half Men” is never too funny, never too odd, and never too naughty. Again, this is why it’s on in hospital lounges and the waiting room at the oil-and-lube.”
• The Chicago Sun Times Critic Lori Rackl: “Monday’s opener got off to a surprisingly good start, considering it took place in a funeral home,” she wrote. “Penis and fart jokes are one thing—and the first episode made it clear the show intends to keep cranking those out. But death is a tougher sell, even before a studio audience full of fans.”

Those are just a few examples of how the show fared in comparison to past seasons and other hit shows. CBS had a great night last night with ‘Two and a Half Men’ delivering a powerful lead-in to a new CBS sitcom, ‘Two Broke Girls’ which averaged 19.2 million viewers.
