Discovery Communications Reveals New Programming Plus Network ‘Velocity’ for Men

Discovery Communications, part of DISH Network programming and home to some of today’s most intriguing television shows, has announced new TV series additions, plus a novelty network, ’Velocity,’ geared toward upper-class men. ‘Velocity’ will replace Discovery Communications’ HD Theater Channel and feature shows that those making “above six figure [salaries]” can appreciate and relate to. According to David Zaslav, Discovery Communications president, ‘Velocity,’ which will launch at the end of 2011 will be “a game changer.” The new network will showcase programming that involves high-end auto makeovers, “insider guides to the ‘good life’” and “multimillion-dollar auctions.” Not only is Discovery making moves toward an untapped market of a heavy-spending male viewership, but here is a look at more new programming on Discovery networks viewers can expect for the 2011-2012 season:

Discovery Channel: ‘Penn and Teller’s Secrets of the Universe,’ ‘Best in the Business,’ ‘Swamp Brothers’ and ‘Life on a Wire’

TLC: ‘Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids,’ ‘Randy to the Rescue,’ ‘I Kid,’ ‘Homecoming’ and a U.S. version of ‘Big Fat Gypsy Wedding’

Animal Planet (14 new series additions): ‘Sweet Avenger,’ ‘Romance is Dead’ and ‘Saved’
