The Oxygen Channel is launching a new social TV platform for fans and it is making its big debut in two days. The Platform is called Oxygen Connect and will offer web exclusives, challenges for incentives and a central place to vote during competition shows. Oxygen Connect is set up so it will be woven into the second-screen experience for the ‘Glee Project.’ ‘The Glee Project’ is an American reality television series from Oxygen and serves as an audition for the Fox TV series, ‘Glee.’ The winner will receive a seven-episode arc in the following season of the show. Original air date was June 12th, 2011 and is moving into its second season which premieres on June 5th, 2012. Subscribers looking to take advantage of Oxygen’s social TV platform will be able to sign up on May 18th, 2012 and receive access to a special viewing of the web-only series, ‘The Glee Project’. All it takes to sign up is have a registered Facebook account that you can sign up with and create a profile.
Each week during ‘The Glee Project’, viewers will be able to participate in missions to earn custom badge points to create a more personalized viewing experience. The points will unlock sneak peeks and live chats with contenders. The amount of points you get may even add up to enough to get you a face-to-face meeting with contestants. On the platform ‘Glee Project’ fans can use Twitter hashtags to vote for their favorite contenders during what the channel is calling “Last Chance Performances.” Other Viewers will be able to see votes as they come in real time with the top vote-getter winning a featured spot on Oxygen Connect. “Tuning in live each week and voting is a key way of earning exclusive badges and ensuring their favorite performance gets unlocked online for a full week,” Kavanagh says. If you lost access to some of your favorite programming over the weekend, you are not alone. Tens of thousands of DirecTV subscribers from Sacramento all the way to Modesto, New York, Chicago, New Orleans and Philadelphia were unable to watch KTLA-TV, WGN and 23 other popular television stations. This is due in large part to the broadcast industry crossfire over money. DirecTV has filed a complaint with the FCC over their disagreement with Tribune Broadcasting. In the disagreement, DirecTV claims Tribune reneged on their deal that would have kept the latter’s television stations on the satellite service. On the other hand, Tribune claims DirecTV has been misleading their subscribers saying that they have an agreement in place when they actually don’t. Tribune Broadcasting said in a statement that without a deal in place DirecTV and their subscribers would lose access to Tribune’s local stations. This will mean that DirecTV subscribers will be missing a ton of their favorite channels and programming. For example Tribune’s KTLA is the local affiliate of the CW in Los Angeles, so this means subscribers will miss shows such as ‘America’s Next Top Model,’ Gossip Girl’ and ‘Vampire Diaries’. Also all of you ‘American Idol’ fanatics will not get to see who survives another week because Tribune is the parent of Fox 40. Tribune president Nils Larsen said in a statement last Thursday that if an agreement is not reached DirecTV subscribers will still be able to watch programs on broadcast stations for free in high definition with a TV antenna or by signing up with an alternative pay-TV provider.

The doctor has almost officially left the building. Last week it was announced that the medical drama ‘House’ would be ending after 8 great seasons. The current season runs until the end of May. ‘House’ stars Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory; a no holds barred doctor that tells it like it is. The antisocial doctor specializes in diagnostic medicine and does whatever it takes to save his parents lives. ‘House’ has attained sturdy ratings throughout its eight-year-run, staying primarily in the teens. The show hit its peak in its third season with 19.4 million viewers, with the ratings consistently declining every season after. This show has been able to last as long as it has due to the great acting done by Hugh Laurie. Other recognizable characters have been Olivia Wilde (Tron Legacy), Kal Penn (Harold and Kumar) and Charlyne Yi (Knocked Up) just to name a few.
The show almost didn’t even make it to the eighth season. Back in January production company NBC Universal and FOX got into a huge dispute, in regards to who was going to pay for the new series from that point. Fortunately for fans of the show, the show was renewed and was able to properly end. ‘House’ was part of the impressive 2004 pilot season that brought hits like ‘Lost’, ‘The Office’, ‘CSI New York’ and ‘Rescue Me’. Out of the list of shows, ‘Lost’ only lasted 6 seasons, ‘Rescue Me’ made it to its seventh season, ‘The Office’ lost Steve Carell last year but remained on the air and finally ‘CSI NY’ is the only one still going strong. With ‘House’ lasting eight seasons it seems like this show has fared very well. While it is sad for fans that the show is ending, at least it will have a proper finale to wrap up the series. The series finale is set to air in May. To learn more about your satellite TV programming package visit us at DISH-Systems.com or call (866)989-3474.
